Almond and Cacao, Gluten Free Protein Power Ball Mixture Reviewed August 14 2015

The Almond and Cacao protein balls are definitely one of my favourites from the Funch product line. As with all the products the line up of ingredients are wholesome and natural. There is no number or hard to pronounce names in any of their ingredients lists. For this gluten free, almond and cacao protein ball the key ingredients include almond meal, raw cacao powder, coconut and chia seeds.

Cacao is high in antioxidants, which are important in fighting free radicals that cause disease. I chose to make them using the dates and coconut oil. For fresh dates, Medjool dates are my preference, giving the balls a lovely, natural caramel flavour. Dates are a great option as a natural sweetener and make a great refined sugar substitute. Dates are high in fibre and have a lower GI than refined sugar, meaning less of a blood glucose spike.

If you are wanting to experiment with your recipe try halving the coconut oil, and adding some almond butter to give them a nuttier flavour. Almonds are a good source of calcium, which is essential for bone health and development. They also contain magnesium and potassium; trace nutrients that are vital for a wide variety of bodily functions. For a bit of fun, I rolled half of my Almond and Cacao balls in toasted almond meal and the other half in cacao powder.
